Following the success of the Melville Island Collection and the Anindilyakwa Sleep Collection, NORTH has released the Nauiyu Upholstery Collection which recognizes the traditional practices used in the remote community of Nauiyu Nambiyu, Daly River.
This beautiful collection features a Fish Net design, which depicts the hand woven traditional baskets that were used to catch baitfish and barramandi on the banks of the Daly River.
These hand-screen printed upholstery textiles feature the design of young Ngen’gi wumirri artist Kieren Karritpul from the community of Nauiyu Nambiyu, Daly River.
Karritpul comes from a long line of recognised artists, with his mother, older brother and aunties all engaged in active arts practice. In 2014, Karritpul won the Youth Award at the prestigious 31st Telstra Art Awards. His artwork is in the collections of NGA (Canberra), MAGNT (Darwin) and Museum of Cultural History (Norway). He is a rising star of Merrepen Arts.
