Annual Open Government Data Competition GovHack launched at DIH

GovHack DIH

GovHack is an annual open government data competition held nationally and in New Zealand.

GovHack is about getting Australia’s best and brightest, working with government data to innovate and create. It is about encouraging and celebrating everyone’s technical and creative capacity, connecting citizens with government for great outcomes, and building upon the social and economic value of open data published by government.

“Where data becomes innovation, and innovation transforms communities.” – Patrick Chan, General Manager of Darwin Innovation Hub

As the central innovation hub in the Northern Territory, the Darwin Innovation Hub is excited to sponsor GovHack and to see the potential for data-driven innovations. Ultimately, we want to support and work with GovHack participants on their path to commercialisation.

This years NT GovHack was lead by Rifat Mahmud. The opening ceremony was held at the Darwin Innovation Hub on Friday, 18th August 2023 with guest speakers from Darwin Innovation Hub, Department of Industry, Tourism & Trade, Charles Darwin University and, Australian Computer Society.

In the Northern Territory for GovHack 2023, there are two competition events, the physical event in Darwin, and the digital event across all of the Northern Territory. The competition runs from 18th August to 20th August 2023. Within 46hrs, the teams trove through the official data sets to find new ideas or ways to reuse the data and make it better to win prizes in International, National and Local prize categories.

Following the competition weekend, the winners of the challenges will be announced in October 2023 at the Darwin Innovation Hub.
