Extending Kindness to NT Schools: YCSWM and Paspalis Team Up Against Bullying

In a powerful move to combat bullying, Sophie Sparks, founder of “You Can Sit With Me” (YCSWM), has partnered with Paspalis to spread kindness and inclusivity in schools across the Northern Territory. This collaboration is more than just a campaign—it’s a heartfelt effort to create lasting change for students who may feel marginalised or isolated.

A Vision for Change

Sophie Sparks is a passionate advocate for anti-bullying initiatives. Her vision for “You Can Sit With Me” began with a simple yet profound idea: empowering students to support each other by making kindness visible. Students are encouraged to wear YCSWM wristbands, signaling their willingness to befriend anyone who feels left out or bullied. This isn’t just a symbolic gesture—it’s about fostering a culture of inclusivity in schools, where every student feels they belong.

Paspalis and DIH: Supporting a Cause

Recognising the transformative potential of this program, Paspalis and the Darwin Innovation Hub (DIH) have stepped in to support YCSWM’s expansion across the NT. Brooke Young from DIH sees this partnership as a way to leverage resources and networks to address a pressing social issue.

“At the DIH and Paspalis, we’re committed to supporting innovative solutions to real-world problems,” Brooke says. “Bullying affects communities everywhere, and we believe the YCSWM program can create real, positive change.”

NT’s First YCSWM Pilot: Leanyer and Stuart Park Lead the Way

Leanyer Primary School and Stuart Park Primary School are the first in the NT to adopt the YCSWM program. These schools are launching pilot initiatives focused on fostering belonging and safety for every student. The program has been met with enthusiasm, as both students and staff recognise the importance of creating an environment where all children feel supported.

“We are thrilled to be working with our pilot schools and spreading our message across the Northern Territory”, Sophie Sparks says.

Impact on Students

Though the YCSWM program was only introduced last week at Leanyer Primary School and Stuart Park Primary School, the schools are eager to observe its influence on their communities. As these schools pilot the program, they are focused on fostering an environment where kindness and inclusivity are at the forefront.

Looking Ahead: Broader Goals and Community Involvement

The introduction of YCSWM into NT schools is a significant step forward, but Sophie and her partners aim even higher. They envision a future where every school in Australia adopts similar initiatives, creating a nationwide network of support.

Get Involved: How You Can Make a Difference

As YCSWM expands, community involvement is crucial. Parents, educators, and community leaders can support the initiative by spreading the word, volunteering, or donating. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps bring the program to more schools and touch more lives.

“This is a community effort,” says Brooke Young. “We need everyone—parents, teachers, businesses, and students—to come together. The more people who get involved, the bigger the impact.”

A Movement for Change

The partnership between Sophie Sparks, Paspalis, and the Darwin Innovation Hub marks a significant milestone in the fight against bullying. Together, they are not just raising awareness—they are taking concrete steps to create safer, more inclusive schools across the NT. With the success of the pilot programs at Leanyer and Stuart Park, the potential for broader impact is clear.
