What is this challenge about?
Rabobank’s 2019 Food Waste Report revealed 34% of Australia’s waste is food waste that ends up in landfill, costing the economy $20 billion per year. According to the National Waste Report 2020, although the NT and ACT both adopted the $0 waste levy, only 1% of food waste is recycled in the NT, compared to 75% in the ACT. With a growing NT population and increasing consumer demand for groceries, how can we reduce the amount of food waste ending up in landfill?
CDU Social Innovation Challenge invites participants to respond with design thinking that leads to sustainable solutions. This challenge will congregate NT expertise and connect with leaders in industries to guide participants towards realistic and practical approach. Awards will be given to those with exceptional presentations based on originality, stakeholders’ engagement and feasibility.
