Darwin Innovation Hub recently hosted another lively LinkedIn Local Darwin event, sparking conversation about the future of artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and the digital lives of Australians. The evening brought together professionals, researchers and innovators to share ideas shaping the Territory’s digital landscape.
David Leaney from the NT AI Network Community of Practice opened the discussion with insights into how government and universities are progressing from ban to consider, adoption and finally transformation in their approach to AI. His talk highlighted the shift from early caution to strategic implementation — a journey that mirrors global trends while reflecting the Territory’s appetite for innovation.
Rebecca Papillo and Kylie Gow from .auDA shared findings from the Digital Lives of Australians Report 2025, revealing both opportunity and risk in our increasingly online world. Their data underscored how individuals and organisations can strengthen cyber-readiness through awareness, collaboration and trust in secure systems.
Darwin Innovation Hub Entrepreneur in Residence, Dante St James underscored the importance of connections between the Territory and national initiatives.
“We’re a big Territory, but also a small community of innovators, so it’s vital that we draw from the knowledge and resources of diverse organisations who are aligned with our goals of innovation and growth. David’s work with government and .auDA’s work in sharing the online “State of the Nation” each year helps us to be more informed, more effective and deliver more for the Territory and beyond.”
The event, co-hosted with Young Professional Rotaract Northern Territory, reaffirmed why LinkedIn Local Darwin is known as the friendliest networking event in town. Beyond the presentations, attendees connected over shared ambitions to build a smarter, safer digital future for the Northern Territory.
As technology continues to evolve, gatherings like this demonstrate how local conversations can help shape national outcomes – connecting community, policy and innovation in the Territory.
