Northern Territory Startup Ecosystem: What Happens After Croc Pitch?
A 10-minute pitch can change everything, but at Croc Pitch, it’s what happens after those minutes that really matters.
For founders, this event is more than a shot at funding. It’s an on-ramp to one of the most comprehensive early-stage commercialisation ecosystems in the country. Whether you get investment on pitch day or not, Croc Pitch opens doors that take years to find through conventional channels.
Croc Camp: mandatory preparation for finalists
Finalists selected from applications don’t go straight to pitch day. First, they attend Croc Camp on 19 August, a mandatory preparatory session with Alex Farrugia and the Darwin Innovation Hub team. At Croc Camp, finalists run their pitch in full, just as they would on the day, and receive direct feedback to refine it before submitting their final deck on 1 September. It’s intensive, honest, and one of the most valuable parts of the process.
StartNT: Structured support for all applicants
Every Croc Pitch applicant gets access to StartNT. DIH’s flagship program for early-stage companies, regardless of whether they win on pitch day. StartNT is designed to help startups validate, test-bed, and scale in the Territory. That means tailored mentoring, business model refinement, introductions to government and industry, and access to investor networks that would otherwise take years to build independently.
Paspalis Capital: Smart capital with local impact
For companies that align with the Northern Territory’s innovation priorities, there’s potential for direct co-investment from Paspalis Capital. This isn’t passive capital, it comes backed by a team that understands the Territory’s unique scale-up challenges and actively works alongside portfolio companies to accelerate their growth. Past Croc Pitch participants have gone on to raise significant follow-on capital from Paspalis well after pitch day.
DIH Landing Pad: Soft landing, hard results
Startups with high-impact technology can access the DIH Landing Pad, a physical workspace in Darwin that comes bundled with commercialisation support, introductions to local industry partners, and proximity to the infrastructure needed for real-world testing and iteration in an NT environment. For companies looking to prove their technology in the field, this is a significant advantage.
The track record
Past Croc Pitch participants haven’t just walked away with capital, they’ve built lasting commercial relationships and used the platform to unlock opportunities that extended well beyond the event itself. Arlula, Esper Satellites, and Blueflite all secured additional investment from Paspalis after their respective Croc Pitch appearances. Many of these outcomes grew out of conversations that started on or before pitch day.
Croc Pitch might last a morning — part of Startup September, presented by the Business Enterprise Centre NT. But for the founders who make it through, the opportunities it opens can shape the next five years of their company.
