No one is born with the ability to network. But we’re all born with the ability to learn it.
That was the theme at this week’s LinkedIn Local – Darwin event that was all about practising networking in a safe environment before unleashing yourself on the myriad of dry season events this year.
From established business owners and operators to students, graduates and new business owners, attendees participated in three networking activities that gave them simple frameworks for explaining what they do in a concise way, continuing conversations beyond the initial introduction and everyone’s great fear with networking – entering a conversation that others are already having.
The session was hosted by Entrepreneur-in-Residence, Dante St James who reflected on the event as being the beginning of something new.
“We all think of networking as something that you learn once, and you’re ready to go. But that’s not what we’re hearing from our local startups, students and business owners. They’re asking for more opportunities to learn and practice networking, and I can think of no better way to build that networking muscle than in a light, low-risk, social environment that mirrors the kind of venues where networking occurs regularly.”
